Washington Post Article

Washington PostOur clients at MtoM keep our PR team pretty busy but when time allows Amy Clark spends time looking for good opportunities for MtoM in the press. We have been published on various tech and social media sites and I was very excited when we were given the opportunity to pitch a story to the Washington Post for the On Parenting section. I decided to address something I deal with every day- social media and parenthood.

I only have a handful of friends that aren’t on Facebook, and I recently discovered that those few are actually on Instagram so they aren’t boycotting social media altogether. We all know that this is going to creep into our children’s lives more and more. I have sons that watch YouTube videos EvanTube HD (read Tracey’s Newsweek article about it here), ask me to post cute pics of them on Facebook, and know that you need a square photo for Instagram. What can I say- it is my job and I love to share and they are picking up on it all.

As we venture into a world where socializing means a lot more than being nice on the playground, inviting a friend over to play, or knowing about stranger danger, we have to prepare our children to understand social media. In five years it probably won’t even resemble what we know today, but we will be connected with each other and the world via technology whether we like it or not. So that brings me to my 6 Tips to Keep Your Kids Safe on Social Media that I wrote for the Washington Post this week. I am so glad that they editor found it to be so timely and even included a great introduction (and called me a “smart mom!”). I hope you find it helpful too!
