The New Twitter Layout- Are You Ready?
We had a long conversation this morning about all of the changes that we have seen on Facebook fan pages and the rapid decline in organic reach. We are still creating great content for clients multiple times a day and feeling very frustrated when 2-3% see many of the posts. There are lots of conversations going on among social media consultants about how to adjust our strategy going forward- do we pay to play?, do we create less content?, do we give up on organic reach altogether? I don’t know if the answers are easy and different fan pages are going to need adjustments based on goals- driving people to a content site v. selling product or services, etc. I think this will be an ongoing conversation over the next few months as we all adjust expectations and goals.
One alternative is to focus on other social platforms. We know based on our MtoM research, that Facebook is still where moms congregate, interact, and is their top social media platform. This is evolving as the Millennials have more children and other platforms emerge, but for now it is the leading social media platform for reaching and interacting with moms. But what do we do now that Twitter is rolling out a redesign that so strongly resembles Facebook? I think there is a huge opportunity to embrace the best of what they both offer and engage moms on Twitter to a level we haven’t seen before. There is more visually to capture their attention and there are more opportunities to connect with people organically. Unlike Facebook, my Twitter account is not dinged for posting too much or too little, and my posts are not weighed by an unknown algorithm on what is worthy of being shown. I am excited to see this redesign rollout and how it can be used to have further reach and engagement and to strategically drive traffic.
