Snapchat announced today that the 9.0 version has been released and includes their new Discover feature. Discover provides news updates and content on channels from media partners such as CNN, Cosmopolitan, Daily Mail, ESPN, The Food Network, People, National Geographic, Yahoo! News, and more. There will be new content every day that will make discovery easy for regular Snapchat users.

The channels are attractive with optimized visuals, videos, and content geared toward a millennial audience. Snapchat took aim at Facebook while differentiating its delivery and selection of content. “Social media companies tell us what to read based on what’s most recent or most popular. We see it differently. We count on editors and artists, not clicks and shares, to determine what’s important.”

There are also opportunities for advertising within the media pages and Snapchat is promising “gorgeous ads.” Within Discover, brands will be able to purchase commercial time. We will be sure to provide an update on how this advertising performs. With 100 million active users of which 71% are under 25 years old, this is obviously a platform for brands to explore if they haven’t already.
