We Love Our Clients: Tom Dolan Swim School

We’re very excited about a new feature we’re starting on the MtoM blog! Each month we’ll highlight one of our clients in a new feature we’re calling ‘We Love Our Clients.” To kick it off, we’ll be highlighting the Tom Dolan Swim School in Dulles, VA.

The TDSS was founded by Olympian swimmer Tom Dolan. Tom is a local boy — he grew up swimming in the northern Virginia area and made us local Virginians very proud when he won THREE medals while competing in two Olympics: Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000. He opened the Tom Dolan Swim School in 2012.

swim2Tom’s main goal is to provide our customers with water-safety education, self-esteem and confidence in the water – safety skills and life lessons that will stay with your kids forever. Tom believes that the school’s tag line, Swim Thru Life, best encapsulates his passion for the sport of swimming in the light that best represents it: a life skill, not just an activity. Swim Thru Life is not about winning races and medals, it is about having the confidence to be a champion in life!

The school has many different levels — depending on skill and age. One of the biggest differentiators of the school is that each kid must have an assessment before being placed into a class. Tom and his staff believe that it’s very important to assess swimmers properly prior to placing them into our technique based class levels.  While this requires the extra step of signing up for an assessment, please remember that this practice is put in place by Tom to ensure that your child starts their first lesson in a level in which they feel comfortable, but also challenged.

The school’s facilities are top-notch and the best in the region. It’s an absolutely ideal swimming environment for all swimmers, whether they are learning how to swim or working to enhance their stroke technique.

  • Three pools specifically designed for teaching children how to swim in that they have a maximum depth of 4 feet, custom teaching ledges on which children can stand, and water temperatures between 89 and 91 degrees.
  • Sound absorbing wall panels that cancel out echoes and make for a quiet, soothing environment.
  • A comfortable, air-conditioned viewing room for parents to relax and watch the classes.
  • Benches and coat hooks throughout the pool deck so that parents can watch their children up close.
  • Heated on-deck showers
